SME 6.01 - webserver behind router?
« on: May 10, 2005, 10:33:20 PM »
Thanks for any help with this.

I setup a 6.01 box as a Server Only and just want it running as a webserver.

I want it to be accesible from outside the network so I setup portforwarding on the router to this SME box.

I can't seem to get this to work, it is accesible only internally.

I am pretty sure the port forwarding is working but if there is something else I need to change hopefully someone can tell me before.

Can you nmap from a outside host and see if your ISP isn't blocking port 80? That could be your case!

Hey paulmancan2,
did we make sure of the simple stuff?
1). Do you have a static I.P.?
1a). If dynamic IP, is the <nameserver> getting change of IP from you?
2). Do you have a domain name?
3). Does the DNS resolve to your IP?
4). Does your ISP service block any ports?
5). Which ports are you forwarding?
6). Are you using an alternate port number for incoming www traffic?
Good luck.
Joe

Thanks guys. Turns out I failed to reboot or restart the network service after I updated the default gateway DOH! So basically it was looking to the wrong address as the gateway and although I could see packets getting forwarded to this box nothing could get back out LOL.

Thanks again for your thoughts!
