So this means that the sme server will act as a anti-spam and antivirus gateway ?

Yes. This works out of the box in 7.0alpha, but additional packages are required for 6.x

Thanks Gordonr, noted your thread, can you let me know what are additonal packages required, where can i download it?

Sorry, I can't, but I'm sure someone else here can.

I haven't dealt with 6.x for some time now. I pulled all of the bits together to make it work out of the box in 7.0alpha (with some other nice changes).

One question, do I have 2 setup the users for sme server in this case or just setup the domain only?

Currently just the domains. However, this means that the SME Server cannot do user filtering in this configuration.

In the future, I would like to have an easy way to upload a "foreign" user list, but we don't have one right now. Certainly easy to do with a custom template.

Or something to "sync" with the actual mail server.....

Of course. But there's no single solution for that. Want a challenge?

Another question, is it possible to use the sme box to send emails in this scenrio ?

I meant using sme server as the smtp(or outgoing) server ? Looks like it cant for public users because then it wont be able to authenticate.

You should be able to create a subset of users on the gateway box.
