Do I have an open relay!!!!!!!!!
« on: October 05, 2005, 10:04:50 AM »
Hi there,

I love my SME, but for some strange reason http://www.nl.sorbs.net/ don’t love it?

I just received this message in a mail:

Remote host said: 554 Your e-mail has been rejected because your e-mail system's host "83.95.154.52" has been identified as a source or relay of spam/junk e-mail, by the DNS Blacklist site at "dul.dnsbl.sorbs.net". Please contact your e-mail system administrator.

My server is 6.0.1 with all newest patches installed by yum.

Anyone, please help!

see

also see this for more background info

You may need to specify your ISP's smtp mail server in the server manager Email panel rather than sending directly to the Internet.

You may need to change ISP's to a more reputable one.

You may need to request that your IP is removed from the RBL list, but you may not be successful if it is dynamic.

Something else to check

Run anti-relay test to check system is OK:
There are two ways this can be done

At the server's command prompt do:
telnet relay-test.mail-abuse.org

Note: This only works if the outgoing address is also your mailserver address, which is usually the case in standard installations. This may not be true in some more complex network setups.

Alternatively browse to
www.abuse.net/relay.html
and enter your server details and perform the test

Hi Ray,

First of all, thanks for your fast replies.

As you suggested the problem was that my ISP gives my IP using DHCP – It’s always the same IP as I have fixed IP due to my server.

The problem stopped when I changed my server settings and used my IPS’s SMTP server. But this raises another problem/issue!

As we all recall this world is a dangerous world with terror, and the terrible 9/11 incident has been used by the Danish government (and all other European) as an excuse to reduce our freedom and our possibility to have private communication.

All ISP’s must, by law, keep all emails as a copy for 90 days!

Off course, one could raise the question: If you are doing nothing wrong, what’s the problem!

My main concern is that I want to “keep on rocking in a free world” as Niel Young  :-D ,and one could ask I this is the start for the governments to control our minds and thoughts.

The good old soviet communists must envy the western lifestyle, where money and reality TV is the drug that makes us accept these regulations in our freedom :hammer:

The last part might need a new thread :-D

Denbert, all you need to do is find an ISP who will allocate you a fixed IP address from a fixed IP netblock (as defined by RIPE) and provide forward & reverse DNS for you domain.

This will mean that you will be able to deliver mail directly without tripping the various spam source blacklists due to having an IP in a dynamic range.
