Sorry about commenting my own message, but surely the cheapest answer here would be a second PC with Windows and the homevox kit. VMWare is going to cost more.

I think you're both right.
It's beyond me and a second pc IS cheaper.
I'll digg myself a little bit deeper into this (just for the potential and the educational goal of it
)
And for the time being I'll buy a second pc.

Check out GSX Server and see if it will run. I don't think you need X installed to get it running.
http://www.vmware.com/products/server/gsx_features.html
It will allow you to run production systems in VM's all images created in VMWare will run in GSX Server. You have a remote console into the server. You can also stop and start any of your VM's from a web browser. If the $300 for VMWare shocks you don't look at GSX Server its $2500.
