move raid drive
« on: February 07, 2006, 09:34:36 PM »
I have a production box that I just upgraded to SME 6.01. I have 2 drive connected as hba and hbb. I want to reconnect  hbb to become hbc. I need a little direction on how to change the drive assignments, and would like to do it withour having to a complete reload of the system. I am running the raid monitoring software, and everything is running properly except the preofrmace sucks. I remember reading somewhere here that this is to be expected using raid 1 on drives connected as master-slave. I forgot I had put this box togeather this way, and it did not seem to be a problem under 5.6.

Any help would be appreciated

Since i have my drives on a Promise controller and really should have them on the mainboard controller (long story....), your post made me have a look. I found the file /etc/raidtab, in there it's configured if it's hda,hdc in my case hde,hdg. So my guess is that this file just have to be changed and then the disks put in the right way. I couldn't see anything to be changed in lilo.conf.
But why don't you have a go and then tell me if it was right... :hammer:

Good luck...

Per,

   Thanks for the quick reply. I will give it a try this weekend. I don't need to shut the system down at the moment and the biggest complaint has to due with throughput. They can live with it until then.

I will post my results.

Thanks

Unless it's a CD burner, it should do it by it self.

If it is a burner then have a look here;
