Hello ISDN users,
I am a linux newbie and I have had problems with ISDN and e-smith, I tried 4.1.2 using a type=35 asus passive card using the excellent howto's on the site, but ran into a serial loop back problem which I could not resolve, getting frustrated at my relative inexperience with linux I was saved by version 5 beta3, great ippp0 is better right?
So I loaded it up and wow a connection! But then I realized after my 2 hour cutoff (yes I live in England and I can not get broadband) I could not reconnect, after a few days I found that: ** ifconfig ippp0 down **, enabled e-smith to redial without a reboot.
Looking at my /var/log/messages below is the interface ippp0 not deactivation/hanging up properly?
So my question is how can I automate this comand upon my ISP hanging up on me? Or is there a well known fix.
*
INFO: my isp is pipex (uses CHAP), isdn=home highway and I have already tried the following commands with no success:
isdnctrl dialmode ippp0 auto
/etc/init.d/diald restart
isdnctrl hangup ippp0

Here is a cut down and edited /var/log/messages, it shows what happens when it tries to redial after a cut off, then presumably when the device timesout after ages.
My /var/log/messages:
kernel: isdn_net: ippp0: dial rejected: interface not in dialmode auto', signalling dst_link_failure
Gateway last message repeated 168 times
Feb 21 20:41:08 Gateway last message repeated 152 times
diald[838]: Closing down idle link.
Feb 21 21:12:33 StarGate diald[838]: disconnector: Link is down
Feb 21 21:12:34 StarGate diald[838]: Disconnected. Call duration 11201 seconds.
(yes the date is wrong!!)
Thankyou in advance for any clues, get in touch if anybody else has this error.
(special thanks to all who post in these forums,Charlie Brady, and all of the isdn howto contributors)
