Topic: VNC or TightVNC Questions.

Anyone put a copy of VNC or TightVNC on their e-smith server, and running them in server mode. Its so that I can dial in via the viewer from my Win Xp machine and then do stuff in the command prompt on the e-smith server, plus take screen shots etc.

If so, whats better - TightVNC or VNC?
Also, how would I then get them to start up on boot. What files to I have to alter and how.

A visit to www.openssh.com will give you complete command-line access to your server.  It's even free for non-commercial use.  Don't forget to enable SSH access in the Security/Remote Access browser control panel.  No server-side software install required.

Yeah... VNC will do absolutely nothing for you, since e-smith doesn't run X.
SSH access is available in the server-manager. All you need to do is enable administrative access and download an SSH client (PuTTY is one of them).

I agree with Mike and Nate.  I use putty to access sme at work or from home.  If you use VNC for GUI systems, I switched to tightVNC since it encrypts the communication and it is faster than WinVNC.  Someone could snif your WinVNC packets and catch your username and password when you remotely log in to a computer using regular WinVNC.
