Boot Disk & Installation problems.
« on: January 14, 2002, 09:23:43 PM »
Im putting e-smith on an old PC that wont boot from CD so I need a boot disk.

Everytime I use the RAwrite program on the e-smith CD, after entering the details (where image is etc.)  it access the floppy for a second and then does nothing more.

I tried a windows boot disk to go into a DOS mode with CD drivers.  Accessing the CD there is no file called setup or anything like Windows (what im used to im afrai).  What file do i run to start installation or can it only be done from the e-smith boot CD - if so can I download one anywhere as mine wont create.

TIA

robert

You really need the boot floppy. Try a different floppy. If it doesn't work the first time, try again and again. I heard rawrite can be moody. If you have access to a linux machine, write the floppy using the dd command. If you have access to a (classic) mac os machine, write the image using Disk Copy. Or see if you can find any other image writing programs for windows and try those. Make sure you select the right floppy image. I believe there are several on the cd-rom.
