Gallery2 install feedback
« on: September 13, 2006, 12:41:08 PM »
I have revamped the install script to work from /opt now.
I would like feedback from a developer to see if it is in line with standard?
I would also like testers to check for bugs.
I know this seems like alot of trouble for something so simple but I was using it as a learning experience.
If all is well than I can work on other scripts and learn howto build RPMs.

Thanks.

Before I try this and attempt.
Are these any other dependencies that I need before the install?
I just have a base load of 7.0 Final and PHPBB2 running.

Let me know.

Thanks,

Any chance of someone helping me locate ImageMagick.
I've been looking now for hours...Both on this site, Google and Gallery2 site.

I know the commands for install, as it was located within this forum,

yum --enablerepo=base install ImageMagick

But where can I download the ImageMagick package.

Thanks,

You can download a suitable ImageMagick rpm from the base repositorie indeed, using yum it is downloaded and installed automatically. The website of ImageMagick is www.imagemagick.org.

So it is... in a manner of speaking.
This is what I got when I did thus:
Code: [Select]

[root@teri tmp]# mkdir test
[root@teri tmp]# cd test
[root@teri test]# yum --enablerepo=base install ImageMagick

After running the two suggested commands I tried ImageMagick.
My Gallery2 stuff could usefully run with IM but when I tried to
shoehorn it towards IM its (G2's) tester algorithm reported:

Version

ImageMagick 6.0.7

Warning: This version of ImageMagick has a known vulnerability that can be exploited to cause infinite loops. You may wish to upgrade. This determination may be inaccurate for Debian.
Use this version anyway
Supported MIME Types

The ImageMagick module can support files with the following MIME types:

The bottom line seems to be SME7 appears to be installing a 'known' (?)
aged or cracked version and does so with wads of error lines reported.
Presumably I've done something wrong, I'd welcome a workaround
other than uninstalling and having to go back to using good old GD;~/

Maybe I'm doing something wrong but when i run

Code: [Select]
[root@teri test]# yum --enablerepo=base install ImageMagick
==============================================================
WARNING: Additional commands may be required after running yum
==============================================================

It just sits there and does nothing. Just the above is displayed.
Is there a setup for yum that I'm missing, I know it was installed through the software install in controll pannel upon initiall setup.

Those errors are a known thing when installing contribs. I have noticed them every now and then as well, they are generated because of little bugs in configuration panels in contribs you installed. As long as server-manager is working properly I should not be to worried about it.

There is nothing to worry as discussed in this thread already as smeos provides ImageMagick.i386 0:6.0.7.1-14 which has the fix for the error suggested by the gallery2 interface. You can safely use this version.

How can I submit to the HOWTO'S?
Also glad to hear it works.
I thought about putting Imagemagic in but haven't got that far yet.

Everything seems to work very well, good job!
The only thing I'm worried about is the security, the outside can see almost every file including the G2data directory (containing security information).
I think it would be more secure to put this in an I-bay in stead of the /opt directory and/or adjust httpd.conf accordingly with templating.

Thanks,  Sjef.

There is a template..

Code: [Select]
#---------------------
# gallery
#---------------------

Alias /gallery  /opt/gallery

<Directory /opt/gallery>
    Options None
    Options +Indexes
    Options +Includes
    AllowOverride None
    order deny,allow
    deny from all
    allow from all
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .php3 .phtml
php_admin_value open_basedir /opt/gallery:/home/e-smith/files/ibays:/tmp
</Directory>

Options +Indexes ?
Regards,
William

Good catch William !

Code: [Select]
pico /etc/e-smith/templates/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf/91gallery

Remove the Options +Indexes line

Code: [Select]
expand-template /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf
svc -t /service/httpd-e-smith

Fixed it, no directories visible anymore, thanks!

But I still find it a problem you have access to individual files from external. So if you know the structure of gallery2, you can still access them: e.g. you can read the configuration authentication file by "http://www.server.com/gallery/login.txt" or try "http://www.server.com/gallery/g2data/versions.dat" with the default setting of this contrib.

Doesn't feel good.

That is a failure in your configuration. Your gallery2 data directory does not need to be visible from the web to display images. You should place the gallery2data somewhere where the user for which the httpd daemon is run (www) has access to it on the local file system of the web server but outside of the scope of the configuration entries (such as Aliasses) as set in httpd.conf.

I have installed gallery2 at my site as well but you cannot view my configuration data as this is not shared to users on the internet, as I placed the gallery2 data directory at the same level as the gallery2 program directory in the opt directory, and did not add it to the httpd.conf files.

The only section for my gallery2 installation (I installed it manually) in my httpd.conf file reads like this:
Code: [Select]
Alias /gallery2/ /opt/gallery2/
<Directory /opt/gallery2/>
    AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .php3 .phtml
    php_admin_value open_basedir /opt/gallery2/:/home/e-smith/files/ibays/Primary/html/
    Options None
    Options +Indexes
    Options +Includes
    AllowOverride None
    order deny,allow
    deny from all
    allow from all
</Directory>

I had to add the open_basedir section as i want to run multiple galleries (in this case from my Primary ibay as this holds my website) from the same source and did a installation of the sub set per gallery2 installer into the Primary ibay.

My gallery2 data is ocnfigured to be stored in the /opt/gallery2data directory which is not exposed to the web or any other user than the ones with console access.

I Want to thank you, and everyone who has been giving their input.
I will fix the options +indexes.
I'm going to look into writing a script to fix the problems,
but the main script will be fixed.
Cactus can you give me you're input as to what directory and scheme
you would use? I.E for g2data.

Thanks.
