Topic: Business Contact Management Software ideas

Does anyone know of decent software that can be used with Outlook and  SME server which provides decent business contact management capbilities for 30 users, but without being bloated like many commercial packages such as Sage ACT, Goldmine, Maximiser etc.

I have to live with Outlook on the desktop, but it would be nice to have a sensible central repositary of contacts.

LDAP doesn't seem to do this as you don't seem to be able to add contacts externally from Outlook... or browse the contacts.

Any ideas?

Stuck in the same loop here.

I wouldn't mind using Goldmine/Act/Whatever but none of them handle IMAP mail and I'm blowed if I am going back to POP3 etc.

Did you find anything out there ?

Here we are using VTiger CRM with much profit, and we are begining to deploy it on a large scale to our customer's.
There is a Outlook connector (and TB too) and an embedded imap mail client.

If you have some time, wait a few days until the 5.03 is released.

Hi,

For small companies here vTiger could be a nice company wide solution, so I allready transalted into the local language.....

But now I don't get email connected to the SME server... with outlook express I can access the IMAP mailbox, send and receive mail...

What I'm missing? how to set it up....

I don't understand, in the days of high speed internet, why would anybody still use outlook? Outlook was necessary in the days of slow dial-up connection, but now same features are available in web-based applications.

I know it can be very hard to have people change, but I did it here in the office of 25 people.

At first I had a lot of complaints and people keep telling me but..but..but..

But eventually people got used to it and now many tell be that they like it much better because they are able to access the system from anywhere they have internet connection.
Besides having private and shared calendars, email, notes and to-do list, they can get their files from their home directory and they have ability to keep their bookmarks there also.

This is Indonesia man.... here we haven't affortable high speed connections. This is why I have the plan to replace W2003 servers (based on illigal software) to weboriented intranet servers based on SME + vTiger as outlook replacement. As fileserver everything go's fine, printing is still not that easy as windows, but maybe we can work it out.

I fetch the mail from a ISP to the SME server, using opera I can read all mail and send emails.

The problem is vTiger5.0.2 email integration, it would be nice when employees just using one application for their office work... but I don't get it running.

If I follow your link I begin to understand why many people don't make the step to Linux... difficult to get applications running.
