first I'm a newbie

background: i'm helping a school to setup their computer lab (10 worstations)
the bandwidh to the internet is limited  (512kbs), So i whant to know if in the mode of server/gateway there is a tool or file configuration were you can limit the bandwidth by some mean (ip address, group, etc) so they don choke the pipe by downloading from a ftp site some big file, or they decide to download a movie.

Thanks in advance

Actually I am looking for a bandwith limiter myself. I am trying to limit the bandwith for some of the sites hosted on a future SME Server 7.0.

The HTBWonderhaper script doesn't seem to be applicable to this situation, and on the dungog site I couldn't find anything related.

Any ideas?

Wondershaper probably will do what you want ... you just have to do a bit of research to see how to set it up.

As for the Dungog contrib .... its called Squid restrictions ...
