Hello,

My first time playing with SAIL, very nice although I wish it had some other features, but more on that later...

Was wondering, is it possible to "upload" custom greeting files to use in our IVR menus? I have some professionally recorded files I'd like to use.

If so, how? I've looked at the online docs, the program itself, and can not see anywhere to do so. Am I blind

Hi Glen

If you have a  recording you've made externally then you can save it directly in

/var/lib/asterisk/sounds

as a .gsm file with the name

/var/lib/asterisk/sounds/usergreetingnnnn.gsm

where nnnn is the greeting number.  This will then be automatically recognised by Sail as a greeting and published in the greeting list.  You can name it and reference it just like any other greeting.

I have a professionally recorded answerphone/voicemail greeting can you tell me where I would upload that? If you don't mind suggestions for improvement, then this is one area that is easier in Trixbox, you can just browse for the external sounds and then upload them through the web gui (AMP or FreePBX) and the same goes for the music on hold files. I must point out that this is an observation/suggestion NOT a gripe or moan  because I am grateful for all the work you have put into this contrib and I am not bright enough to do it myself Thanks again for your help.

First of all, don't worry about criticising the product or suggesting changes, we aren't the least bit precious about our code and if there is something wrong with it or something that needs improvement then we'd really like you to tell us about it.

We've looked at the upload thing a few times but we've never been totally comfortable with the idea of an automated upload into a secure area of the system.  Having said that, we'll have another look at it and we'd appreciate any input from you security gurus out there as to how we make it as safe as we can.

For now, in order to load a sound file you must be logged into the system in line-by-line mode and you need to know a bit about linux.  Your professionally recorded greetings can be loaded in the same way that we described to Glen in the previous post.  To get your sound files onto the system in the first place, you can copy them to the files directory in the primary i-bay, provided you are inside the LAN.  You can then log in as a console user and move the files into the sounds directory with the appropriate name (as described above).  

Sorry we don't have anything better for you Del but that's where we are right now.

Having read what Del wrote I would have to agree, although I know your security concerns, it would be nice to be able to upload voice files without having to resort to the command line.

In terms of things that would be nice to see, what comes quickly to the top of my head is Feature Codes. Would be nice to be able to define the codes according to the users requirements. Perhaps a client is migrating off a legacy system, it would be easier for them to be able to keep feature codes the employees are already familiar with.

Hi Glen,

You clearly know a bit about phones.  You are right on the money with soft feature codes and our biggest regret is that we didn't implement them from the beginning.  It's on the list but it's not a trivial job to retrofit.   Ho hum.  We have to do it at some point....
