The system needs to be reconfigured after adding or removing software, or applying updates.

An automatic reboot will be initiated as part of this reconfiguration process

A quick fix (which may resolve all your issues) would be to delete
/home/e-smith/db/yum_repositories
then do
signal-event post-upgrade
reboot

This should reset the defaults

Tried that yesterday,

When I run the software installer it says that updates are available.

The drop-down box says: "not using-ftp,".....HMMMMM

It sounds like a DNS issue.
Can you ping www.google.com from the console?

Yes.....I can ping www.google.com

had the same issue read the thread about yum issues. i did the above as well as renamed the files to backup and all went without issue except i have an issue now with getting error 256
