I have this IP's from my ISP:
IP: 86.106.138.161
SM: 255.255.255.0
GW: 86.107.194.1
DNS1: 212.146.75.6
DNS2: 212.146.75.98
And a NET card with HWaddr: 00:C0:26:8C:63:B9
(Only if I setup this one with the IP's from above, i can access the internet, because of HWAddr,
To be more specific: When I have used Windows only with the MAC of this one !!!AND!!! the IP's listed above I was able to access the internet, if I not put there the IP's the DHCP of my ISP could not give me access only by MAC Address (HWaddr) sometimes so the ISP recommended me to use the IP's too.)
So I plug-in this netcard in the PC with SME Server 7.0 installed, as eth1)
I have another netcard plugged in the same PC as eth0.
As far as I read the eth1 is used by SME Server 7.0 as a external interface to access the internet, and eth0 for local (internal network).
************************************************************
So, in SME Server 7.0 console, I show you what i've done STEP by STEP:
at Local network parameters (i believe this is for eth0) and I put here the IP's for internal (private) network:
> IP: 192.168.0.1
Select local subnet mask:
> SM: 255.255.0.0
Select operation mode:
> Server and gateway (I believe this is for being able to access the internet through this PC)
Select external access mode:
> Server and gateway - dedicated (I use an existing neighbourhood LAN for connecting to internet, not modem or ISDN)
Select ethernet card assignment:
> normal.....eth0 is local, eth1 is external
External Interface Configuration:
> static IP
Select static IP address:
> 86.106.138.161 (Live above)
Select subnet mask:
> 255.255.255.0
Select gateway IP address:
> 86.107.194.1 (but after I reboot this one goes as 86.106.138.1) Why?
Select DHCP server configuration: (Local (private) network)
> Off
Corporate DNS server address:
> I left it blank because I have read there >> "You should not enter the address of your ISP's DNS servers here, as the server is capable of resolving all internet DNS names without this additional configuration" hmm
So I saved configs, etc. and reboot to activate the new config.
After reboot and entered [user]root , [pass]********, etc i write in the line:
ipconfig eth0
shows> The HWaddr: 00:40:F4:1D:E1:72
inet addr: 192.168.0.1 Bcast: 192.168.255.255 Mask:255.255.0.0
..............RX and TX packets alll 0
Interrupt: 5 Base address: 0x7400
ipconfig eth1
shows> The HWaddr: 00:C0:26:8C:63:B9
inet addr: 86.106.138.161 Bcast: 86.106.138.255 Mask: 255.255.255.0
..............RX and TX packets alll 0
Interrupt: 10 Base address: 0x7000
And now if I ping 86.107.194.1 (GW from ISP) is OK
but if I ping for example: contribs.org,
www.google.com,
www.yahoo.com or any external IP that I know it doesn't WORK!!!!
