How to connect to internal LAN controlled by another router
« on: February 18, 2007, 02:20:56 PM »
Hi everyone,

This is my first post and I certainly hope that someone is able to help me. I have installed a SME server as a server/gateway on a connection that looks like this:

WAN - (Two different public IP's) - switched to:

A) wireless AP-router with one public WAN-interface, LAN IP = 192.168.2.250
B) SME-server with another public IP, LAN IP = 192.168.2.90

SME-server is switch'ed with the rest of the internal LAN 192.168.2.xx

From the SME-server I can ping the local LAN-NIC. This is not possible from the other workstations. Workgroup identical for both sides.

I have a feeling that I have to set the LAN ethernet card to use Router A as a gateway but i dont know how.

Thanks in advance

This is a strange setup and will probly not get what you want.
But since I don't know what you want, it doesn't matter.
(You actually configured the SME to have 192.168.2.90?, usually many people use 192.168.2.1)

To ping the SME from your client computer, you need to set the gateway setting on the client computer to 192.168.2.90

(Which should have happened if you turn off the DHCP on the wireless unit and obtain a new ip address.  reboot client computer if you don't know how)
