Can't access server-manager
« on: March 29, 2007, 05:03:46 PM »
Hi Everyone,

When I access my server-manager I recieve the following message:
---
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, admin and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
---

I don't believe I've made any recent changes. SME just runs and runs.

I can access user password, ibays ect. just not the server-manager.

How can I check the server log? I'm a new to Linux.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
-Mark

How can I get to the server log file?

Any other suggestions?

what is "single-event post-upgrade?

Is this something you run from a Linux prompt? If so, what would I need to do? I'm new to Linux.

Mark,

I am running SME server 7.1.3, and I got server manager to work again. Here's what I did:
- log on to the server console locally
- select 4: reboot, reconfigure or shutdown this server
- choose reconfigure (this will take a while, then the server will restart itself)

at this point, I still couldn't get server-manager to work, but I also noticed the DHCP server wasn't working either, so I did this:
- log on to the server console locally
- select 4: reboot, reconfigure or shutdown this server
- choose reboot

Once the server came up the second time, everything seems to be working fine.

Hope my little experience helps.

Hans

What about doing what SME tells you to do when you install a contrib? Let me see.... Do a signal-event post-upgrade and signal-event reboot or your sistem will be in an incosisten state!?
Jeez... some people just can't read.

Rozz,

Thanks for the kind reply. Yes, I ran option 4 prior to leaving the office today. That got me to the log in screen. So, I will perform a reboot tomorrow. Looks like it's heading in the right direction. Thanks again.

nenonano/bpivk,

Dudes relax. A kind suggestion to the manual would have suffice.

Actually, when I started using SME last year the new manual wasn't ready, so I used the old instructions to get acquainted with SME. I wasn't familiar with those terms I assumed they were Linux commands as I mentioned in my earlier post.

Based on your suggestion I've visited the new documentation. Looks super. I will go over it thoroughly.

This server has been great, it just runs and runs. That why when this problem occurred I thought something bad had occur.

Thanks,

Rozz,

I did you you suggested:

My server is running SME server 7.1.2.
- log on to the server console locally
- select 4: reboot, reconfigure or shutdown this server
- choose reconfigure
then
- log on to the server console locally
- select 4: reboot, reconfigure or shutdown this server
- choose reboot

now I get a log in page, but it does not accept my log in name and password.

I tried logging into the server via the text browser a the server console same result.

From the network I can access the ibays, user-password, etc.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all for your replies.

I used the user-password to change my password. I was able to change my password sucessfully. I attempted to log in again to the server-manager, it still didn't work.

Well i wasn't refering to user-password. Did you check the FAQ. It has a howto for changing admin password.

Edit: After another look at your problem...
Post this problem to the bugtracker because (correct me if i'm wrong) you can't use the server manager or SSH but you can change admin password on the user password page.

Am i correct? If i am post a bug.

Thanks again for the reply. So you want me to change the admin password, OK?

Just to let you know. I can log into the server console at the server. I sure there's a reason you want me to do this. I will.

Let me know otherwise.

That looks like a corrupted file to me - that should be "join "<br>". What does:

Are you sure that your RAM is good?

Hi Mark,

I don't know what to suggest next. Your machine is behaving much differently than mine at this point.

I have only been using SME server for a week, and am busy going over the documentation and getting familiar with it.

If I learn or see anything relevant, will let you know.

How did you check the memory?

You should also check /var/log/messages.* for disk read or write errors.

Check your typing - you shouldn't be asking for it to verify FormMagick, you should be asking it to verify perl-CGI-FormMagick.

CharlieBrady,

Thank you for the reply,

I used the dell diagnostic disk ... it's a dell server.

I type what you stated in your message. Is there a space between "rpm -V" or no space "rpm-V". I did it with a space.

I will try the log as you suggested. Do I just put" /var/log/messages.* " at the linux prompt?

Thanks,

You did not type what Charlie asked you to.

You state above that you typed:
rpm -V perl-cgi-FormMagick

You need:
rpm -V perl-CGI-FormMagick

Mind the caps on CGI (not cgi) and there is a space between rpm{space}-V
In life, you must either "Push, Pull or Get out of the way!"

Any other suggestions at this point?

At this point I'm able to access the https://xxx.xxx.x.xxx/server-manager however however it doesn't allow me to log-in. It just keeps asking me for user name and password. I'm able to change the user password, that doesn't help. I have no problems accessing my folders etc. I just can't log in to the /server-manager .

Yes, I can log into the console at the server.

At the server I tried to used text browser to log into the sever-manager however it doesn't allow me.

In either sernerio I get the login screen, enter my username and password. If I enter the correct username/password a windows dialog window pops up and asks for it again. If I put an incorrect username/password it gives me an invalid username/password message and asks to ender again.

Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for all your help. Now at least I can get into the server-manager.

I believe in the past I used to log into the server-manger with my regular user name and password. My username was set up for the admingroup.

Now, only the admin and password gets me into server-manager. Is the normal now? I added a new user and added the user to the admingroup and the new user can't log into server-manager.

Any thoughts?
