I downloaded e-smith 5.1.2 yesterday to see if it could be used just as a basic file server to replace a couple of aging NT boxes.

One little thing that I came across, was that it would be useful in my current situation to create some i-bays that are owned by the group "Everyone" but have the user access set to write=admin, read=group.

What I want to know is, can I customise the product so that several users have the ability to write into these shares using their own username, rather than having to specifically log in as "admin" each time they need to update something???

Can this be done or am I completely off track here.

Much obliged,

Alan Smith.

P.S  -  Cool product !!!

For similiar situations that I've faced, I've found it easier just to create a new user group specifically for that IBay that includes all the users I want to have access.

Had the same problem a while back and if I recall correctly,
I created a select group with the few users that needed write access to the share.
The next step was to modify ownership of the root dir of the Ibay and all the files that were in it,  to be the select group. Chmod to 0755 for the directory and all the files in it.
Seems to me that the way it went.
