Topic: USB disk - LaCIE 500 GB

I have the following strange problem when I connect a external USB disk (Lacie 500 GB) on a SME 7.2 server (Dell 1800):

When I plug in the drive for the first time, it doesn't work and logs this in /var/log/messages:

After unplugging the drive and plugging it in again, I see this in the log:

and now everything works. The drive can be mounted on /media/usbdisk and just works fine.

Has anyone experienced the same problem, perhaps with other usb disks?
I can't find why the drive has to be plugged in twice to get it working.
Any ideas?

Please report this issue to the Bugtracker. Two similar observations suggest a Bug.  Porvide detail of your system, including logs, as you have done in this post. It will be appreciated.

No, still no solution. I have tested it again today and have the same problem on 2 servers. They both run 7.2 with the latest patches.

Keven, a Bug report #3407 has been entered in Bugzilla about this issue.  Would you please provide detail of your hardware as a post to this Bug, it may help.  Thanks. chris
