You have obviously forgotten.

When you create a new account at bugzilla you are clearly asked for an email address, which is what is required to login with.

"To create a Bugzilla account, all you need to do is to enter a legitimate e-mail address. ...."

The normal login screen also says:

"I need a legitimate login and password to continue"

It does not specifically mention user name.

I do believe I did copy and pasted the line from the BT login page as shown below.

Quote
If you have an account, but have forgotten your password, enter your login name below and submit a request to change your password.

Quote
It does not specifically mention user name.

And I was suggesting that it should ask for the specific type of entry required...for login name is not the same as email address.

Which is what the field required....EMAIL ADDRESS NOT LOGIN NAME.

i.e.

Login Name = BULLSIT

email address = BULLSIT@contribs.org

Quote
You have obviously forgotten.

Your absolutely right and I intend to forget all things that qualify as something that I shouldn't have to remember.

i.e.

Your previous post..... thank you very much....

It should tell you the login is your email address instead of people having to play guessing games
as to what it is.
This is default bugzilla, now you know you need to enter an e-mailaddress you can create an account and report that as a bug as well :-)

On top off that I consider it pretty rude behavior to use marquee, big sized fonts and colors the way you do in this post and see it as a unnecessary outing of your frustration. Most off the times it yields quicker results by just asking politely and nicely.

We could have easily provided you the answer that you need to use a e-mail address to login to bugzilla.

Ok... how would I... or for that matter anyone else know that from the login page, show where it says e-mailaddress or even if it implies it.

You all assume everyone knows what you all know, guess what, they don't.

JFYI... I've had the bug account for a very loooong time, and the login u&p was set, suddenly for whatever reason I had to login without the info
I created the account with many many moons ago.
I wasn't creating the account I already had, I was trying to log in, so I haven't seen the page that "clearly asked for an email address" in a very loooong time.

The page I was at.... is the login that everyone would use and might run into problems with as I did.

I simply conveyed that problem to those who I thought would consider it to be something that needed to be remedied.

Apparently I was wrong thinking anyone would take responsible action or maybe even as little as agree.

The good old days.....

On top off that I consider it pretty rude behavior to use marquee, big sized fonts and colors the way you do in this post and see it as a unnecessary outing of your frustration. Most off the times it yields quicker results by just asking politely and nicely.
So lets see, I'm accused of being lazy, complainer, forgetful, blind and rude because I used a marquee, big sized fonts and colors.

I wasn't frustrated..... however I was offended and felt it was very necessary to make my previous postings obviously clear to some one who didn't take the time to comprehend and understand what was being conveyed and decided to launch another offending verbal attack that I might add....... was absolutely without a doubt unnecessary!

Ray could have responded...

I see and understand what you mean, it could present a problem for folks logging in.
Might be a good idea to submit that to the BT.

After reading that I wondered, did he even read my post?

We could have easily provided you the answer that you need to use a e-mail address to login to bugzilla.
That's right you could have done that, or better yet fixed the login page for all future visits by others so it never is a issue again
for anyone

 or you coulda said

Hey... thanks electroman for point that out, we'll see what we can do to to improve/change it so others don't have that problem.

But it's easier to berate a lazy complainer who's blind rude and forgetful..... then it is to take action to fix the problem.

i.e

Go into the BT change Login to email address click save... done deal....
Inner circle...1 minute...time well spent and managed....

That might have saved us all a little time here and who knows something might have been fix around here.

You might also find "complaints" around here, to decline.

Oh....yea...almost forgot (ray might be right) I'm a complainer on top of all my other attributes that I have so nicely
and politely been assigned by some.

I build buildings for a living, if a customer came to me with a problem/complaint how many
buildings do you think I would build for him if I said to him....

"You have obviously forgotten your blind, lazy, and rude so stop complaining and I'll build it the way I feel like building it."

It's more then likely I would never build another again....bottom line!

Changing  someone's post because you don't like what you read or saw or it wasn't
the way you would do it, is simply not proper.

Responding properly....is proper!

Else you become a dictator and not a delegator.

That's everyone's choice.

What's interesting is you all couldn't find a problem with what was said, I was
polite and to the exacting point.

However you did not like the amplitude of it and thought that was rude.

That's interesting. :???:

Just so you know, all my effort to make that real nice post, to jazz this place up with color and a marquee and this is how you treat me! :(

I'm going to tell my mommy on you....!!!!

Catch on.... :P

I read every post !
To see what you were seeing I did log off bugzilla and did carefully look at what a user sees when they have to login.
My answer is accurate, I did say the normal login screen says....."I need a legitimate login and password to continue", which it does indeed say.

"Legitimate login" in this case clearly means an email address as that has ALWAYS been the requirement with bugzilla (despite your assertions otherwise that bugzilla has changed).

I also assumed you recorded your login details somewhere when you first created the bugzilla account, and based on that I assumed it would be fairly easy to look up your details and see that a legitimate login is the  email address.

You are referring to the password change screen, where it mentions to use this if you have forgotten your password, so that's why I answered "You have obviously forgotten."
By your own action you agreed you forgot & I just agreed with you.
Yes on that screen it does mention the words "enter your login name", which may be misleading if you can only ever think that a login name must be a persons "user name" rather than the possibility of it being an email address.

In bugzilla parlance legitimate login = login name  = email address

You have lodged a bug report so if the powers that be think there is merit in your request, then it will be actioned.

  • Although it might look to you I am in the inner-loop, and to a certain extent you are right. It does not mean I need to do the work of users in the forums.
  • Although I might be in some inner-loop, it is not the correct one to have access to modify the bugzilla front page. I need to report a bug for that as well. To me your statement seems a bit oversimplified, in analogy to your field of work: How and why should I repair the broken window when I am a brick-layer?
  • Since you have some interest in fixing the issue so you should report it as a bug, not others, as you are the one who need to motivate and follow-up when necessary not I or other forum readers.
  • Last, but foremost, I suggest locking this thread if it not returns to it's topic as this discussion seems irrelevant to it.

To get this topic back on track!  With the help of some dedicated individuals we believe we have solve the problems with contribs.org.  Everyone that has been working on this that could replicate the issue now reports that the issues have been resolved.

If you still feel that there is an issue with the page only half loading (or not at all), please either reopen the existing bug dealing with it (http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4019) or open a new bug.

Thanks!
