Email... SMTP, error 550 relaying denied anyone?
« on: June 30, 2008, 02:23:28 AM »
Hey Guys, I am in the process of testing sme server for my company, everything seems great.... just trying to work the last couple bugs out of it. So onto my issue... EMAIL!! When I am inside my building I can send and recieve email faster than anything else, and it works great for every application I am running. HOWEVER when I am outside my network, lets say on another high speed network, our connected through verizon's wireless modem on my laoptop.... I can recieve emails and iteract withe everything as if I was sitting at my desk (that is awesome) But when I need to send an Email I get an error, 550 relaying denied.

Now I dont get this error when I am sending to the network from any email serive, its only when I am triyng to send an email from my SME domain to anybody, including to an internal email address from outside the network. I thaught port 25 for SMTP may be blocked by my isp, so I changed my email port to 465, I think it was. No luck there. I called my ISP and my phone, Their ports are open however I cant use their servers for relaying because its is againsed policy. Go figure.... So my question is... is what the hay am I doing wrong that I cant send email outside of the office, from any pc or palm. Is there an option in the root that I must enable in order for me to beable to send email from outside the local network? Any body have any ideas please??

See Email panel in server manager

You can provide external authenticated relay access to your SMTP server. The SSMTP setting requires users to send their username and password encrypted to your SMTP server. Allowing external authenticated relay access should only be used by experienced administrators. Relay access is always available on the internal inteface. We recommend leaving this setting Enabled unless you have a specific reason to do otherwise.
