IVR and Ext Dial Thru
« on: September 23, 2008, 11:22:30 PM »
OK, I thought I knew how to do this  :( I have recorded 2 greetings, one called incoming and one called options and what I want to do is get my incoming trunk to go to the incoming greeting and then drop to the options greeting at timeout  8-) Basically the incoming says that "if you know your parties ext please dial it now, otherwise please hold while we try to connect you" (much like the default greeting) then if they don't dial an extension it will time out and go to the options greeting  8-) where they can press 1 for me 2 for the wife etc. I have created the IVR menus for each greeting and the first one doesn't have any options except #8 which goes to ext 5004 (I don't put this on the greeting, just give it to my friends so they can avoid the IVR menu)the second IVR menu for the options greetings has all the options according to the greeting plus the #8. So here's what happens, I dial in, the trunk goes to the incoming greeting but it won't allow ext dial thru, it just ignores you and then drops off to the options greeting (the #8 works OK) where you can choose your option and it works fine. If I point the trunk to the default greeting and dial in I can dial an ext # and so the ext dial thru works  So can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? Or maybe I can just change the timeout action for the default greeting? Which goes to ext 5000. Thanks for reading and if you're not as confused as I am you may even be able to help me  :P

HI Del,

Our IVR is fast, but it ain't particularly smart.  It can count or listen, but not both at the same time ( ).   So... it will ony listen for an extension if there are NO options in the menu.  Your #8 causes it to count digits input and compare them.  One of these days I'll get 'round to fixing it but it works for the most part so I've never bothered.

Kind Regards

S

Hi Selintra,

OK, I've got no options selected in the IVR (not even#8  :) ) but it still doesn't dial through  but the thing is now I can't get my old configuration working  :-( I used to ask the caller to press * if they know the parties ext and then this went to a custom app that you posted for me ages ago but it just ignores this as well  :? So I am hoping you can shed some light on this for me  :-)

Almost certainly a DTMF mismatch between the phone and the sip entry for the phone.  Set the both to info or RFC2833.  If you are using any codec other than G711 then inband will NOT work.

Best
