Solved: FTP access lost after following CACERT Howto

Solved: FTP access lost after following CACERT Howto
« on: December 16, 2008, 12:03:40 AM »
Hello All

I have followed the Custom CA Certificate How to

http://wiki.contribs.org/Custom_CA_Certificate

I have fixed my certificate problem, but now I have no ftp access.

ftp=service
    LoginAccess=public
    TCPPort=21
    access=public
    status=enabled

I have tried many different applications to FTP into my server, all of them connect and then disconnect. I have search my logs for weeks now and cannot find the error. Could someone point me in the right direction. I need to upload file to my website and of course I can do this other ways, but I would like if Dreamweaver had ftp access again. I'm running sme server 7.1.3. I have used google and search contribs.org a lot and have not found anything that matches my problem. If I have overlooked something obvious I'm sorry for starting a new post.

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the reply, Stefano

Yes I know I need to upgrade. I'm very nervous to do so. The server is far away, last time I upgraded, something went horribly wrong. Do you think that would solve my problem? FTP was working 2 days ago. Only thing I have done is fix my SSL certificates.

I have been supporting this server for 3 years now. I was thrown into it and knew very little about linux at the time. I have learned everything to survive, google and this forum are my best friend. In the past few years I have been scared to post an issue, cause I have seen a lot of noobs get slammed for not posting right. So I just keep reading till find an answer. I now love SME server, I think it is the best server ever.

I would consider myself still a noob, but I'm starting to become enlighten. I do however know I have enough knowledge to be dangerous to this server. So that is why I posted this time. Just thought I would get some expert opinions on how I might have screwed up SSL Certificates to affect my ftp access.

If you have any good tips on how I can safely upgrade my server remotely, I would love to here them. I know how to do an upgrade, I'm just looking for a fail safe, if something goes wrong and I'm 1400 km from it. Last time, I had a kernel panic, which then caused me to panic.

Anyway thanks again,
Lisa

FTP and SSL certificates are unrelated.

Please report issues like this in the bug tracker and not in the forums. I seriously suggest you open a bug as updates should work out of the box and not break your systems core functionality like webmail and PPTP.

IMO OP could explain what issues she is having..

I suspect VPN is broken because of incorrect kernel/module.. if so, there's already a open bug.. :-)

Ciao

OP should still open a bug report. Duplicate reports are easily merged.

The incorrect kernel was correct. VPN is working, FTP is working, Webmail is not.

Yes, in the bug tracker, please.

I do know the problem, I have php 5 installed. Do you still want this in the the bug tracker?

 This is what is at the top of Webmail login, before I login:

Notice: Only variable references should be returned by reference in /usr/share/pear-addons/Log.php on line 128

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /usr/share/pear-addons/Log.php:128) in /home/httpd/html/horde/imp/templates/common-header.inc on line 3

This is what I get after trying to login:

No. It will be closed as INVALID if you open a bug. SME 7.4 includes PHP4, and a webmail which SME developers undertake to keep working. If you install PHP5, you take on the responsibility to deal with any webmail issues.

PHP5 issues are off-topic for this forum.

As well as in this thread. Please open a new topic for new problems, this will keep it clean for readers.
