SME still trying to sync former user's folder
« on: February 17, 2009, 06:12:23 PM »
Hi all,
I am repurposing a WIN XP Pro SP3 box for the next user. However, the former user is still synching to SME upon logoff. I have removed the old user's folder, and scrubbed the registry of all references to the old user, but no joy as of yet. What am I missing? I hope to not have to reimage the machine, as they are regularly rotated.

TIA,
Bruce

Hi Bruce

please explain with more details your issue.. have you got the roaming profiles? what do you mean with "next user/former user"?

Ciao

Hi Stefano,
I am not using roaming profiles.

a user (the former user) had used the machine for several months, and now has left the company. A new person (the new user) is taking their place. The former user's account has been locked on the SME server, the registry on the workstation has been cleaned of references to the former user of the machine, and their Documents and Settings folder removed. I logged on as admin, and as a different user, both of whose drives mapped properly. I saved docs to their home folders figuring that would trigger a sync, but no. I unjoined the domain & rejoined, but nothing seems to be working, however, I have the feeling the fix isn't going to be esoteric!

I think you need to login as admin user and delete the profile the way you should do not through the explorer or hacking the registry, go to the configuartion panel and choose User accounts, select the user and remove it.

If you are still stuck I suggest you simply backup stuff you need to keep and re-install the machine, should get you up and running within the hour with a clean windows. We never port computers to new user without a format and reinstall, remember to unjoin the machine from the domain first.

If you mean the Offline Files synchronisation process, then you need to reset the Offline Files setting to its defaults. Then it will lose its cached copy of the former user's profile. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/230738

Thanks for the replies. I forgot to add, Cactus, that I had tried your suggestion, but the user wasn't listed.

David, your suggestion worked perfectly (I used option 2). And after I had restarted, the reg key had deleted itself, so no need to remove it. Terrific!

Thanks again for the assistance.
