Has anyone installed A2Billing?
« on: March 20, 2009, 02:30:51 PM »
Hi

I'm thinking of installing A2billing to play with ... looked at a few others but they all required $$

All i want is to play around with billing features at the moment ...

Any help with this would be great.

Regards,

Tib

We looked briefly at this some time ago Tib.  To make A2billing work will require us to give you some hooks into the AGI.  It's not a problem and we'd be happy to help but we don't have the resource to do it for you so you will probably have to do a bit of design and programming work of your own if you want it to run.

hmm ok

Well I don't have any programming knowledge so looks like I'll give that a miss then.
I've dabbled with scripts, macros etc but not programming.

What do you guys use in your setups ... you must have some sort of billing requirements from some of your customers.

The reason I ask is ... there is a small business that I do some IT work for that is like a virtual office setup for small business that can't afford or does not require a large building.

They have a central reception that takes calls for all the business that are there.

Now they have an archaic phone system atm and I was thinking of setting up something for them to test on my behalf.

I'm thinking of maybe going into like a small pabx business setup with the many other things I do.

Also I would like to use Sail and SME to do this in the long run.

Anyway they would require a billing system for there business setup.

Once I have tested the hardware and software for a while in that environment then I would go and purchase a main stream billing software.

I'f all goes well I will encase the system into a small quiet box that can hold a few pstn cards for up to 36 - 48 lines.

The thing I would like to concentrate on more is the voip side of things though ... there is great potential I think even for multiple incoming did no's instead of physical lines ... provided the ADSL speed is there ... they get a nice 22mbit connection with 2mbit out.

Anyway back to my question ... what do you guys use and what cost is it.

Regards,

Tib

Hi Tib

For managed office (such as you reference) we use clustering and we simply give each cluster a different VoIP account and then let the VoIP carrier do the billing.

For larger stuff we usually use an off-line billing company who we know here in the UK, but there are loads of 'em out there and they all have systems which are light years ahead of stuff like A2Billing.  Just ship them your CDR's once a month and they will do the rest.  Very very few companies need instant on-line billing.  Most of 'em have trouble coping with once a month :)

Kind Regards

S

lol .... I guess most would.

So I'm guessing you just export the months CDR to a csv file ?

I will have a look at it and see aht I can come up with ... csv and excel even I can work with.

Tib

I am new to SAIL SME Server v8b6 and have been using SME for many years.
I have already done some research and only ask questions if I still can't work it out.

Anyone succeed on this?
We have a really old PBX that does this today, I'm trying to make the change but I don't want to loose this feature.
