Topic: DAR2 download error-Newbie here

I'm pretty new with SME- Did build an SME server several years ago for a business I inherited.  The tape drive died, and am trying ot figure out how to setup a usb drive for backup with DAR2.  SME server 7.01, got the usb drive formatted and mounted.  From root I did yum install smeserver-dar2 --enablerepo=smecontribs --enablerepo=smeupdates-testing

returned "Error getting repository data for smecontribs, repository not found.  No new rpms were installed." 

Being more of a windows person, does this mean I don't have a ibay/directory called smecontribs?  If that's the case, how do I find what the name of the repository is?  I have build a test server to test this process and I'm stuck.  Any help would be truly appreciated from the SME guru's.  Thank you  Terri

Welcome to the forums

The smecontribs repository was only introduced with SME Server 7.3. You should really upgrade to SME 7.4, which not only would fix a lot of security issues (and bugs) on your server, but would also give you DAR2 integrated into the server core.

David, thank you for the reply.  The info you provided was very helpful.  Guess I'll see through the contribs what I need to do to upgrade the server.  Seems like there are informational documents about upgrading from one version to another.  Not that I could just jump from 7.0rc to 7.4.  Is there a good place to find all the info in one place?  Thank you so much, again,  Terri

I recommend you run the following from the shell:

signal-event post-upgrade ; signal-event reboot

If you get any errors, let us know here. Also, be sure to read the release notes on the wiki for important upgrade information.

If you have any contribs installed, you will need to upgrade them after the core upgrade. The contrib structure has changed a little from the version you are running. To upgrade:

signal-event post-upgrade ; signal-event reboot

got on screen

Setting up repositories
Reading repository metadata in from local files
Could not find update match for post-upgrade
Could not find update match for signal-event
No packages marded for Update/Obsoletions
No new rpms were installed. No additional commands are required


I'm not sure about the could not find statements, are those errors, or should I proceed to the next yum statement your provided?  Thanks

Sounds like the RC had different repositories (which makes sense). I would download the 7.4 ISO and do an upgrade from the CD.

David, did the upgrade from 7.01rc to sme 7.4, sweet how it worked, but now can't get back into server manager from another machine.  I do see usb backup, ran that from server with logging into admin, but don't see where I can set a weekly backup. Will that be available with sme 7.4 like the tape was in the older version?  Thank you for all your assistance.  You are appreciated with my inexperienced questions...

When you say that the server manager isn't working, what exactly goes wrong?

USB backup is configured using the "Workstation Backup" option in the backup panel.

David, thank you.  That looks like I will need to put the server back to my 7.01rc and then proceed with the article you sent.  Will print it and try it.  Thank you for letting me know.  Will keep you posted.  Sorry, I work all day and get to it in the evenings.
