Topic: Installer goes to blank screen on boot.

When installing from CD, after booting the disk the installer loads /sbin/loader and the screen goes black and stays this way. I tried booting with the i586 kernel as was suggested for a similar problem in a different thread, but no luck. Any ideas?

Whats the date on the CD drive your using in the SME and the CDR drive.

Old will give you no joy, like in > 2001

The CD I burned the iso to? It is fresh from the store.

Not the date of disk, date on the drives.

Not sure precisely, but its younger than 2004.

I thought the same thing on one of the systems here, ended up 1999, that drive hit the G file real quick.
Even 2004 is getting a bit old.

Well, I tried using an 6.5 release installer and it installed without issue (it had its own trouble, it hung during the boot process after install, but I suppose that is a separate issue).

Oldest drive I use here is 2005 for a good reason, it works.

You could use the CDR in SME just to be sure and save yourself some time.
