Topic: How do I Backup and Restore user mailboxes

I'm new to SME Server and using Flexbackup with a Tape drive

This seems to work - although I've NOT tried a RESTORE so far.

I've searched the FAQ's / HOWTO and (and a bit on Forum posts) for a idea on how to RESTORE individual accounts and their emails.

Flexbackup seems to RESTORE ALL by default and I found a command to do interactive restore so I know how to resore files and folders.

I'm not sure how to RESTORE individual users mailbox... Before going live with the server this is something I must find out how to do as emails are BIG part of our data.

For example - if a user leaves or their mailbox is somehow deleted or damaged I need to be abble to restore a mailbox - not the whole thing.

I've already looked at this and other contrib pages and searched the Forums for "Restoring Mailbox" and similar.

When a problem occurs I can see I will be able to RESTORE the FULL tape or partial files. What I can't figure out of ALL this is how to simply RESTORE a single users mailbox (or a single email - that would be nice!)

DAR is disk based, BackupPC also, AFFA seems to require a dedicated box as a backup - not sure if it supports tapes.

Did you ever think to search google eg
http://pwet.fr/man/linux/commandes/flexbackup

or even use the man pages from Linux command line ie
man flexbackup

Perhaps you also do not know the location of users mail

/home/e-smith/files/users/username/Maildir/cur

replace username with the users name, and specify the required mail folder, ie cur is the Inbox (already read)

Thanks for your reply - I have searched google and did find various posts about flexbackup. I've experimented with the info and managed to get to restore individual files and folders.

No I wasn't sure of the location of MailDir - but when I look on the system
 /home/e-smith/files/users/admin only has Home under it !

admin is different, go up a couple of levels
try
 /home/e-smith
or
/home/e-smith/files
