Slow internet speed for internal machines
« on: July 11, 2009, 04:04:14 AM »
Hey all,

I've had problems in the last year with slow internet speeds for machines behind the SME server.

When I do a speed test (speakeasy) on a lan machine, I get about 800 kbps.  When I got straight to my dsl modem (bypassing the SME server) I get more than double that speed.

When I got "right behind" the SME server, I get the same slow speeds as elsewhere on the lan, so it is not an internal network issue.

I would assume, and I have always seen, slower speeds "behind" the SME server.  There is some overhead in the routing.  But this is bad.  In the past the "real" internet speeds and the speeds "behind" the server were much closer.

Perhaps the hardware needs updating?  Any ideas?

Currently up-to-date (7.4) BTW

Checkout the ideas and comments in this thread: Proxy slows down fast connection.

We're unlikely to know if you need faster hardware unless you tell us what you've got...

I have a Fios connection behind a SME running on a P4 2.4GHz w/ 512MB RAM, and I don't see a slowdown.
