Can't backup using configuration workstation backup
« on: January 06, 2010, 05:43:27 PM »
Hello, I'm testing backup, created share folder named haha in Windows XP workstation 10.0.0.200 with password test/testtest, the following is smesever configuration workstation backup information:

Backup is Enabled.
Backup is made on LAN workstation 10.0.0.200 via cifs
Destination backup share folder is haha
Login is test
Password is ********
Number of rotating backup sets is 1
Number of daily backups contained in each set is 1
Compression level (0-9) of backup is 6
Daily backup occurs at 0:32
Each daily backup session is cleanly timed out after 10 hours.except full backups which are cleanly timed out after 24 hours
Full backup session (new backup sets) is allowed only on Wednesday

I can see two folder in Windows shared folder at 0:32, and then waited 10 mins this shared folder still 0 size... nothing happened, is the setting wrong?

Thanks !

look in the messages log on the server and see if you have any errors, specifically look for CIFS errors

Go to server-manager then click on the "view log files" panel under Administration. The "messages" log is selected by default. Click "next" down at the bottom and look for CIFS errors right after the prebackup events in the log.

The manual page with screenshots is here:

How much space does the first backup screen (before you select the backup type) show?

I wonder if you are waiting long enough. The server does a bit of compression before (and while) the backup runs. I do not see the post backup event so the backup sequence in the log above is not complete.

You mentioned that you do see folders created in the share.

I have one running over VPN to a remote location and it takes around 15hrs to do 5gigs of data with the highest level of compression running. Could you test it by doing the following?

MAKE sure that the workstation does not go to sleep or power saver mode while this process is running.

1. reboot the server to be sure there is no backup job running.
2. delete the files that are currently on the share
3. start a backup late in your workday
4. check the share to make sure the directories are created
5. let the backup run overnight and see what happens.

The last line of the 3rd paragraph on the first screenshot.

Currently your hard disk contains xGb of data.

If your backup workstation share is on the local network and you have a 100mb or better connection between the server and the workstation, I would set the compression level to 0 or 1 for testing purposes.

There is no local saving path, backup files are stored directly on the workstation in tmp_dir on the share and moved to the setx dir after the backup completes.

OK

I'm trying to use USB disk to backup, mount point is /dev/sdc /medie/usbdevice.

Here's information:

Backup is Enabled.
Backup is made on local USB disk
Destination backup share folder is media/usbdevice
Number of rotating backup sets is 1
Number of daily backups contained in each set is 1
Compression level (0-9) of backup is 0
Daily backup occurs at 16:54
Each daily backup session is cleanly timed out after 8 hours.except full backups which are cleanly timed out after 24 hours
Full backup session (new backup sets) is allowed only on Friday
