Topic: Oz Mirror for SME Server

Thought this may be of interest to those down here..

Being in the great south land I found it odd that there was not a mirror for SME server here..

So I contacted iiNet, one of the largest ISPs in Oz and asked if they were prepared to do just that, they host a public ftp server for a number of distros and other "junk", http://ftp.iinet.net.au/, including CentOS and the old clarkconnect (forerunner of ClearOS), its a freebee service.

They are looking into it, seem positive, I am pretty confident they will do it..will take a few weeks while they evaluate the worth whileness etc of doing it...

Sounds good!  When getting closer to realisation, someone involved with the project should open a bug report under "Mirrors":
http://bugs.contribs.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=SME%20Web%20site

This will facilitate setup etc.

Sad news, no go, here is the rationale..

"We have had our Network Operations Centre review the request for the mirroring of SME Server. At this stage due to a lack of demand we wont be able to mirror the distribution.

The analysis was based on both historical customer demand and using external reference points such as distrowatch.com.

Thanks for trying mate.  Sad indeed, and unlikely to get better given the delay in releasing version 8.  The Swedish forum is about to close down. Our distro appears to be loosing ground...

Yep, 8 being in beta so long did not look good to them.

Any idea why RC1 is not available for testing, it has been a significant period of time since it was avaiable to the few via jigdo..at least that is my reading of the tale anyway..I may be a heretic but it would appear to do no harm to just release it..

Anyway, can only wait and see..
