SME on Hyper-V
« on: April 30, 2014, 11:24:06 AM »
Hi all,

So I've intalled SME server 8.1 64bit on Hyper-V Server 2012 R2. It all installed ok and the network adapters were found ok.

What I've noticed since doing some testing is that the file transfer rate (testing using ftp) is pretty poor, around 1-2 mb/s.
I tried changing the nics to legacy adapters and the performance jumps to 20-25mb/s - better but not great compared to the physical box currently in use.

Has anyone else got any experience of SME in Hyper-V and any steps that you took to get the network adapters performing to their potential.

(or alternatively any other hypervisors that have faired better in virtualizing SME)

thanks

2) Adding Legacy Network Adapter

CentOS5 doesn't support synthetic deivces. We created an emulated network adapter to access Interate in order to make installation convenient. Select the new VM -> In Actions pane, select Settings... -> In the new VM's setings window, on the left pane under Hardware, click Add Hardware. -> On the right pane under Add Hardware selec Legacy Network Adapter and click Add.

I can't say for hyperV as I never used it, but SME works really well under KVM, using the VirtIO net and disk controllers. You can get nearly bare metal performance
C'est la fin du monde !!!
