Hello,
Is it possible to use xen server and opennebula as addons on sme server?
My scope is to use xen server from sme server administration as addon and I also want to use openebula cloud software as addon from sme server admin as well,

Or should I instal only xen on main node only and sme server on a seperated vps?

thanks!

I just noticed you have a vmware addon here http://wiki.contribs.org/Vmware
so I guess I would need a xen addon as well,
is there any for sme server right now?

I would like to use one of the following xen platforms;

http://solusvm.com/

or

hypervm https://github.com/lxcenter/hypervm

I just noticed you have a vmware addon here http://wiki.contribs.org/Vmware

old contrib for an old and unsupported vmware product

you don't need a contrib to use web panels..
just try to install it on SME and report here your experience.. and, if you can, share it on wiki...

I see the fist product is not free..

I suggest you to change your point of view: install proxmox on bare metal and install SME into a vm

I just had 2 other questions,
does sme server support website hosting like cpanel and webmin and if possible assigning a different ip for each site?

If not should I instal webmin or cpanel on the server?????

My second question is what is the difference between sme server and http://www.nethserver.org/

http://www.nethserver.org/nethserver_smeserver/

and wich one too choose?

I just had 2 other questions,

I moved this topic into "general discussion" forum
as a rule: 1 question, 1 topic, thank you

SME server is aimed to work as a server for a Small Medium Enterprise.. in server and gateway mode, it supports only 1 public IP

SME can host as many as you want websites.. they will have all the same IP address, it's just a DNS (external and internal) matter

SME server doesn't support cpanel or webmin: don't try to install them on your server or you'll break it (search for webmin in the forums)

My second question is what is the difference between sme server and http://www.nethserver.org/

http://www.nethserver.org/nethserver_smeserver/

Nethserver is a "cousin" of SME server.. it's actively developed by an italian firm (Nethesis.. Hi Filippo & Alessio :-))
it's similar in some ways and very different in others.

Now, my questions:
- did you read SME's documentation/manuals? if not, please do.. you'll learn many things
- did you search in the wiki and in the forums before asking? if not, please do; during the years many question as already been asked and answered.
- you said you are looking for a "server" solution.. what do you need? something like a M$ SBS server? a web server? an hosting solution?

Finally, a suggestion: SME, like Nethserver, Zentyal and so on, is an highly integrated/customized linux distro.. it's not a plain centos or debian.. this approach gives to user a powerfull tool, ready for production in an "1,2,3" time.. but it has also some "limitations".. you have to adhere to some rules or you'll break it..

Here are the answer to your questions ;

1 I am not a system admin neather a software developer, I am just looking for the best open source alternatives to build my projects

2 I am looking for the best scalable extendable preconfigured ENTERPRISE corporate server.

3 I haven't been through all the sme server doc forums and wiki yet.

Thank you for your support and enlightment.

IIRC someone already said to you that there's NO best solution.. every product has its pros and cons.. you should define exactly what you need and choose the right tool.

2 I am looking for the best scalable extendable preconfigured ENTERPRISE corporate server.

too vague.. :-)
do you need:
- SSO?
- mail server and client integration "a la" M$ exchange/outlook?
- web server? for what? plain php sites? jsp?
- fileserver?
- AD integration/replication?
- firewalling? proxy? web content filtering?

you request sounds like "I'm looking for the best car" :-)

You're absolutly right,
I am looking for the best car all inclusive in a open source free way but you'll tell me that beggers can't be choosers but I am sure that will all those open source software around they have got to be something avalable.

PS web server for plain php sites, jsp and asp.net support would be nice.

don't get me wrong but..
first of all you should decide if you want a sport car, a citycar, a SUV, a minivan..

I suggest you to try some distro, to learn pros and cons of each one an then use the rigth tool.. I mean, if you have to make an hole in the wall you likely don't use a skrewdriver, rigth?

use virtualization.. small machines doing the rigth job in the rigth and best way (and sincerely I won't use as.net ;-) )

If you want to use/support proprietary protocols then you probably need to use proprietary web servers eg IIS (MS)

Please search before asking, an answer may already exist.
