Hi, is there anyway to get ipoe to work with sme? Instead of ppoe in set up?

Thanks Terry...but have already been there and unable to get it to go....I am thinking that the modem is not going into full bridge mode to allow the sme to do its thing....

From re-reading what I said previously, you may need to select Static IP mode when you run the Configure this server option from the Console menu.

Hi Janet...well I have tried this using the following information....

LAN IPv4 Address:    192.168.0.1
WAN IPv4 Address:    106.71.124.147
Default Gateway:    106.71.0.1
Primary DNS Server:    211.29.132.12
Secondary DNS Server: 198.142.0.51
Mac Address:       90:72:82:31:ab:fb
ConfigId:               F5350_Optus_10.conf

As you can see I have the relevant ip needed and guessing that the wan ipv4 is the static ip given but buy doing what you said it still requires a user name ie: my email address and password.  Is there a place that this can be placed in .config file some where?

The modem is where you configure the ipoe login client details, as SME server cannot handle that protocol.
The static IP will be the IP of the modem on the network.

Unlikely I expect, as it has never been added in for the last 16 years.
Maybe if you pay a developer it will be added.

well.. try to do it yourself..
I mean.. as long as you find the related services and conf, you can create your db entries and template fragments..
once you manage in making it work, open a NFR in bugzilla and share your code.. in this way it can be reviewed and improved by anyone interested.

This is probably a feature that is not used by many people, so therefore the need to add it to SME server was never considered important or could justify the time needed to create the code, & that is apart from the practicality & reality of SME server actually supporting that protocol etc.
It might be something that is not practical to implement, & that is why it has not been done.

The workaround provided works fine, so if you really want to do it, there is an existing answer.
Otherwise use a different ISP who supports protocols that SME server supports (with modem in bridged mode & SME acting as router/login client/DHCP/gateway/firewall etc).

The best approach is to open a bug, request a new feature be added (NFR), & see what the response is from developers.
I have recollections that it (ipoe) has already been raised, so search bugzilla first.

By doing it this way I assume you are saying the inside ip and would I in-turn turn of DHCP and DNS in the modem/router?

3: No user or password (is this correct? as I require one with optus modem.)

7: Subnet equals 255.255.0.0
8: Set server as server/gateway
9: Selected static ip given for external eth0 192.168.1.2 subnet of 255.0.0.0
10: Gateway ip of 192.168.1.1 (vigor130)
11: Provide DHCP on server
12: Starting range of ip 192.168.1.2-192.168.1.233 on server
13: No username or password given as using static ip

So could you tell me what or where I am going wrong?

The modem is where you do configure the login details & pw as you need to use the log in client provided by the modem software.
The static IP you enter in sme server console, is the LAN IP of the modem (as set in the modem), which it seems is Gateway ip of 192.168.1.1 (vigor130).
