Koozali SME Server v11 2024-12-04
« on: December 04, 2024, 06:41:39 AM »
Hi all,
we reached some new milestones. The biggy is to have our repos and mirrors  populating again since we updated to koji buildsystem. In the mean time we worked on the comps.xml file to recreate repodata with group. This will allow the ease to pul SME Server from Rocky doing something like

Code: [Select]
dnf install @smeserver
Done
  • configured and working Koji buildserver
  • signing of rpms
  • repositories and mirrors
  • pulling upstream packages
  • working install from Rocky 8 server minimal
  • qpsmtpd has 3 separates daemons with their own configuration (port 587 submission available)
  • contribs built
Currently ongoing
- postfix is configured and working
- moving from qmail to mini-qmail to keep final delivering using qmail ( back compatibility for sorting of email and ezmlm)
- new server manager
- manager panel for lets encrypt and certificates

TODO
[] first smeserver-11.0.alpha1 iso
[] rewrite DNS stack
[] few bug fixes
[] upgrade translation software.
[] new documentation site
[] test and fixe contribs

We are looking forward to give you an iso for the beginning of the year, and things should get fast after that.

Few of you know how much JP has done.

Absolutely remarkable contribution.

V11 will be the 'Pialasse' release!

Please, don't just sit there waiting others to do the work. Please get involved.

Also note if you want to help please ask me for a Rocket.Chat account where we most of the work - and some friendly banter - these days.

V11 won't get built by itself.

Come and help.

Well, I donated money a few weeks back, and I am testing 11. I still use SME10 but use SME11 as a relay server that accepts mail and passes it to the older server, since 11 has a newer version of Clamav and possibly newer versions of other packages.

There was a large update today for SME11, and Ive noticed a couple of problems that Im currently trying to report on Bugzilla.

Sme11 is pre-alpha, should not be used in any kind of production.
You really should ask for a Rocket account before reporting bugs. (there's much more going on back there)

Fabulous thanks.

I am testing 11.

Good but. Caveats. Big ones. It is test code only. It should not be used in production. There are various issues that quite possibly will not survive an upgrade and will need a fresh install. We do not document this because it is moving fast.

What?? It is not even Alpha. It is testing only. You are quite likely to lose everything in one fell swoop.

I'm not really sure what you expect. It is pre Alpha testing code and subject to massive breakage all the time. You will have read that already. On Rocket we already knew, and why.

Most of it is due to this, and the changes we have had to make.

https://bugs.koozali.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12881

Some things broke badly in the process and are still being worked on. Hence pre Alpha.

Bugs - they are probably already open, but again you should be on Rocket talking about this.

Unless you are on Rocket talking to devs then you really are on your own here. I would invite you to ask for an account and join us. We need testers, but they need to know what to test, when and why.

I'm not expecting anything and there was never anything to lose since no mail was ever stored on the test SME11 server, it just relayed mail, and it worked perfectly until today.

As I said.

Don't use it in the real world unless you like unpleasant surprises to which there may be no fix and may trash everything in sight.

It could easily have just deleted every mail that came in. Or worse. Hacked as a mail relay etc.....

If you want to help test then I have told you what to do to avoid duplication and unnecessary work for the few of us doing anything.

No point in opening bugs if we already know......

We"ll be grateful of the help, and will save you a lot of pain eg there is every chance the dev code may not be upgradable to a proper install.

Just PM me your full name and an email for notifications and I can add you to Rocket.

Got the ISO last night, installed it over my previous, hand-built test server, and its up and running and happily relaying mail once again.
It has the same bug that server-manager had on my previous server, the one where the e-mail panel wont open and gives an 'Internal Server Error.' But since server-manager is being replaced with smanager, this is not an issue. At least I'm relieved to know that the bug wasnt caused by something I did.
I did get a warning email last night saying:

'Cannot query quota for 'compdoc' on '(XFS)/dev/mapper/kss_rocky-home': No quotas on this system.'

However as I said before, no mail is stored on this test system and no quotas were set beyond the default of zero, so this is also a non-issue.
In the meantime, I only need to add a few custom templates to complete the system. btw, I really like Roundcube even tho Im not using it yet. Great job, guys.

If you are going to play with fire please read the bug tracker every day tl see what is happening.

That and Rocket are where action is at.

Probably related to this.

https://bugs.koozali.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12906

Note things are changing very fast so a bug today may be fixed & closed tomorrow hence here is not a great place to report issues.

'Cannot query quota for 'compdoc' on '(XFS)/dev/mapper/kss_rocky-home': No quotas on this system.'

this means you played with the anaconda partitioning tool and deleted SME partitionning in favor of Rocky /RHEL partitionning.  We do not use a dedicated LVM for home for SME.

As soon as you enter (this is enough for it to consider you want to play with it) in the partitionning tool the automatic Rocky/RHEL partitions will override  what we set during boot of the iso.

Ah nice JP.

Think my brain is addled.

If the user has issues then they should probably open a bug rather than follow up here.

Or talk to us on Rocket.

I recently downloaded the new ISO for SME11 alpha, and was happy to see it install without a hitch. Thanks for all the hard work! Now I will play with it and find out what works and what not (yet!). When installing new rpm-packages, I often get the message "All matches were filtered out by modular filtering". Should I follow the advice here (https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/644322/libssh2-filtered-out-by-modular-filtering-on-rhel-8) and add something like
Code: [Select]
--setopt=smetest.module_hotfixes=true when I try to install with dnf?
