A short note and some news that may be of interest.
Me.
First, my UK Office burned down on Friday. Very messy. But on the back of SME we were up and working today like nothing happened. I am fortunate to have some great a friends here at Koozali who have all given me moral and physical support, including resolving some annoying minor tech issues.
We lost an office, but not a business.
I cannot stress to you enough the importance of resilience, backups, and offsite duplication.
The lessons of working remotely for nearly 20 years, and Covid, meant literally as the office burned down I relaxed with a glass of wine knowing I had it all in hand. I have been busy today with a few teething issues that I expected, but it was work as normal for our staff in a temporary location.
Something to think about!! What would you do if your place burned to the ground tonight?
Koozali.
On the weekend we had a meet of the main devs and we have essentially decided to have a development freeze and focus on an ISO release.
So we won't be upgrading DNS and a few bits for now. But we are working hard on producing a workable Alpa for testing.
One major hiccup that has delayed things has been the effective closure of the open fusion repo.
We have increasingly used the RPMs from there for perl modules we need, but for the same reasons we have left CentOS, they have too.
That means we have had to import and build all the packages on our own infra - a big job we were not expecting.
We are also losing our main ISO hacker Trevor for several week from next weekend as he journeys off afar on a long well deserved holiday. Very jealous.
It won't stop us, but he has done a huge amount of work on this and he will be missed.
We are not going to put a date on things but we think an Alpha is pretty close - depending on the openfusion rpms and ISO building tasks - and because of the work we have done we can probably go to a Beta pretty soon after.
So a final v11 is on the horizon!
I will ask once again - if you want to then help come and talk to us.
We have 90 or so people on Rocket, but probably less than 10 who do anything. If you want an ISO, please come and help!!
Thanks.
