Topic: Help with e-smith and NT domain and passwords

e-smith newbie here.

Can I setup users in an e-smith server and have those user's passwords be pulled or synchronized with an NT Domain controller?  If so, how please.  I would really like users to be able to access the e-smith as well as the NT domain using one userid and password.  What about when it's time for users to change passwords.  Will the new ones be synchronized.

E-smith works just fine with NT in the background - Just have the domain of each client box point to the NT domain.

I would suggest giving the NT box a static ip - such as 192.168.x.x.

What you are asking for is not a standard e-smith feature. It would be a small development project for someone to work out how to do that with the e-smith server. And it's not really something that a linux newbie would be able to set up, I'm afraid. You might like to join the developers mailing list, and ask there to see if anyone is interested or has solved the same problem.

why you need two PDCs? you can use Samba as your PDC so e-smith server can be used to setup users etc.. , and since Samba v2.0.7 you can connect Winbloze 2000 clients as well.

There is no need to syncronize two PDCs (maybe on a large network), and if so it is done with Samba too. Have  a look at the docs at www.samba.org they show you lots on how to integrate linux servers on a windows network.
