These instructions assume you have a 2 static IP number (111.222.0.3, 111.222.0.4)"

1.) if for instance i only have 1 static ip address, but i have zodeedit to act as my secondary dns, will this howto work for me?

2.) my sme5.6 box is currently using cs2.homelinux.com as its main domain name, if ill host my own domain which is arjay.com.ph, do i have to change my sme5.6 box's main domain name to arjay.com.ph?


3.)the other day i tried to configure my sme box using this howto, but then after ive done all of them, three things happend in different instances or everytime i reboot the server:
    1.) my box dont have an internet connection anymore or in a way, i cant connect to my dsl isp anymore but there was no problem with my isp.
    2.) the server have a net connection but i, which is a client of the sme server, dont have any internet connection.
    3.)i can connect to irc but i cant even go to google.com

---> my question is that do i have to change the gateway ip and DNS server search order ip in win98's Network properties and put my static public ip address instead of my sme box's private address?

after experiencing those problems in question #3, i tried to restore my backup but after rebooting when backing up was finished, same problems arise to i was force to do a fresh install.

Not sure on this one, but from what I have read it would seem quite sensible.

Sounds like no DNS server got started - you could connect to ip addresses but not resolve hostnames.

You should just be able to keep the SME server DNS as your primary DNS, but I never got the howto to work for me either, maybe I am just unlucky :0

the problems in question #3 is there again. i thought of putting the sme box's external ip then it worked normally.

its still carring its default hostname cs2.counterstrike-cafe.ph. then as you adviced, i changed the main domain name to arjay.com.ph, everything dont work again so i put it default domain name back again and everything seems back to normal.

then i tried to add arjay.com.ph as a virtual host... those said problems showed up once more so i deleted arjay.com.ph as virtual host and its back to normal.

so now can i conclude that the domain name you are adding should be the main domain name and it should be a virtual host either?

one problem though, if i browse to www.arjay.com.ph using www.megaproxy.com to see if its working... the answer is that it cannot resolve arjay.com.ph.  is this normal? should i wait for a little while for the dns to upade?

I've been working on the public DNS stuff and while this may not answer the above issues directly, I did find a number of things that I needed to do to get the public dns working.

Tony, could you list the commands youve used in your every step? coz im still a newbie and it will make may server go shittie again like i first installed Jason's Dns script. by the way, im using a sme5.6u4 server and havent touched my dns coz im not sure which one to use... Janson's DNS howto or allen's DNS howto.

You mya use my contribute and enhance using Tony (he did a great job on it.) By The way i did also done and packaged Tony contribute install script for 5.5 but i add-on for 5.6 as well.
