I've recently installed V4.0 on a HP 6611. (Celeron 533 i810 Motherboard with DE500 NIC) Install was sensational and flawless (or so I thought

) a very nice product to use (and using it a lot I will be if I can resolve these issues).
The install proceeded fine and didn't appear to have any problems I orginally selected to use DHCP and since then have tried it a number of times on a number of machines with and without DHCP (which I orginally thought was causing the problem) but every time I get the same problem.
The problem is the network doesn't appear to be functioning pinging from another machine on the network results in nothing.. there isn't any activity whatsoever indicated at the hub/switch it's connected to and there isn't even any lights on the bcak of the card itself.. The card (well the present one I'm using I've used a couple) is a Digital DE500 "Tulip" card I've had no problems with it before and I know it's working at present as I reinstalled both Linux and Windows on the machine I was using to check.
There aren't any warnings or errors during startup except when DHCP is enabled and it says something to the effect of SIOCADDRT: Network is Down and then fails to start properly claiming a subnet for eth0 needs to be declared (which I've checked and it's already there).
I'm at something of a loss. I'm not a total newbie at Linux but I wouldn't say I'm the worlds most knowledgeable when it comes to Linux and networks but I've tried everything I can possibly think of (

But I'm sure there's something I've missed) I can provide logs and the like.. The config is totally standard at this stage and it's been set up for Internet Server - Dialup I've tried with both DHCP on and off and the only duifference seems to be the lack of the DHCP error messgae on startup when it's turned off.
I hope someone can help me as this looks like a sensational product which will solve a myriad of problems for myself and a number of ppl I work for. If I can get it to work properly.
Hope to hear from someone with something enlightening for me.
Thanks in advance,
Dan.
