generic mysql question...
« on: October 27, 2000, 10:49:46 PM »
mysql (from esmith rpms) was working fine before i got brave and tried the horde thing.  so i installed all that stuff, and am now getting the following error.
i tried reinstalling mysql, and still nothing.  any hints as to what may be wrong?
ps there is no /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock

connect to server at 'localhost' failed
error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (111)'
Check that mysqld is running and that the socket: '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' exists!

i seem to get it o unfortunately 8( doesn't matter what i specify in /etc/my.cnf (which i thought i'd create to help fix the problem).

when i specify a socket = /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock i get an error msg looking for /tmp/mysql.sock

and if i specify socket = /tmp/mysql.sock, i get an error msg looking for /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock

anyone knows what's up??

any help would be much appreciated!!

thanks
