Squidguard and Dansguardian
« on: October 14, 2004, 01:39:55 PM »
I had Squidguard on my SME 6.01-01 Contrib.org release.
Investigating blocking of websites I installed Dansguardian (installation went very smooth) and started testing.  Dansguardian worked very well, but did not give me the functionality I needed, i.e. blocking of individual users and Management Console based exclusions / addons.

Thus I removed Dansguardian and installed SquidGuard.  Trying to access server-manager gave me issues immediately.  I disabled Proxy in my Web Browser and could access server-manager.  Trying to access any website resulted in images not being loaded and sometimes sites not being found.  This happened with proxy settings enabled or disabled.  I uninstalled SquidGuard and everything was back to normal.  I re-installed Squidguard and the problem appeared again.  Squid's cache.log reported no errors and this is indeed a very strange phenomenon.

I did notice the following error during the install:
file /etc/e-smith/templates/etc/rc.d/init.d/masq/35transproxy from install of e-smith-transproxy-0.3-1 conflicts with file from package e-smith-proxy-4.12.0-01
file /etc/e-smith/templates/etc/squid/squid.conf/50-transproxy from install of e-smith-transproxy-0.3-1 conflicts with file from package e-smith-proxy-4.12.0-01

Looking for this error did not help much as well as the forums on Tech-Geeks.org

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Was this server an upgrade??

I really don't think you should have e-smith-transproxy-0.3-1 installed.  It is included in the squidGuard tarball because it was required with the older versions of the server.

In every fresh installation on v5.6+, that rpm usually errors out during the install... and installation continues.

Try removing the rpm:
Code: [Select]
rpm -e e-smith-transproxy

Then, re-install squidGuard.

Let me know,
Abe

Squidguard error

Hi Mr. Loveless,

I am using "squidguard3.2.tar.gz". Installed and used it for a week. I also added some trusted and untrusted domains. I am using the "http://www.tech-geeks.org/servers/sme/v5.0/squidguard/blacklists.tar.gz" since using the original "http://ftp.ost.eltele.no/pub/www/proxy/squidGuard/contrib/blacklists.tar.gz" blacklist controls will return a download error.

One day, I found out that I could no longer view nor add any trusted/untrusted domains and IPSec Controls. The "view squidguard log" works but returns no error except "squidguard ready for requests".

Errors encountered were:

You didn't enter ANY data in the Domain, Expression or URL field!
-or-
You didn't enter ANY data in the IP Address field!
-or-
You didn't enter ANY data in the Blacklist field!

I tried to reinstall squidguard without uninstalling first since I could not determine the file where my customized blocked domains were recorded. What should I do?

Thanks,
Buknoy
