I have just completed an install of SME7Beta8 on a brand new Intel Server with a single 73Gb Scsi on an Adaptec 29320 card in server only mode and it went beautifully, then ran thru updates, installed phpmyadmin (x dmay), phpsysinfo (x dmay), backup2ws (x dmay) & userpanel (x dungog) with not problems at all ... have completed tests (simple ones as I'm still an inexperienced user) and I can't fault it.

Congratulations to all key players that have made this happen, keep up the good work and have a great Xmas.

I assume you downloaded the version from here http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/dmay/smeserver/7.x/, then you say you have installed it and the command you used was the same as me, now to see if working your point your browser to https://<servername or IP>/phpsysinfo and you should see the output.

Merry Xmas

SME 7 Beta 9 Install Failure
« Reply #307 on: January 05, 2006, 12:39:13 AM »
I just installed SME 7 Server only on my box, and it installed fine, but on first boot it never gets to the activating configuration mode, and when I shut it down it hangs on stopping syslogger.  Has anyone seen this?  Is it a bug, or is there a work around?

7.0pre1 is now available
« Reply #309 on: January 10, 2006, 09:51:23 PM »
SME Server 7.0 pre-release 1 is on its way to the mirrors.

We decided not to call this one RC1 as we have a few bugs we'd like to squash first (see the bug tracker).

However, if you haven't made the move to 7.0, now is the time.

Please report any issues via the bug tracker, and *only* there, please.

Thanks,

Gordon

7.0beta9 -> 7.0pre1
===================
- Test Internet Access now accesses contribs.org and only passes two
  pieces of information - the version installed on your server and
  a string used to differentiate your server from others using this
  test. This string is generated by a one-way hash function and access
  to the string does not provide any information about your server.

  We appreciate your assistance in sending this information so we can
  gain an accurate count of the installed servers.

- Server manager changed to use contribs.org branding. CSS files still
  need to be updated.

- Usernames of the form first.last and first_last are now allowed.

- The maximum length of user and group names has increased from twelve to 31.

- Reconfiguration reboot added to "Shutdown and Reboot" panel
  (added in Beta9). This performs a "post-upgrade" and a "reboot" and
  should be used after system and yum upgrades.

- Automated conversion to RAID on upgrade feature removed.

- Bug fixes - see the bug tracker - Thanks to testers and developers
    See http://bugs.contribs.org/

Is there any info on how to upgrade from 7.0 beta's to the final candidates or later releases? I searched the wiki but could not find anything.

If I download 7.0 pre 1 and install it, will it upgrade the beta or overwrite it?

Good Evening,

Ok, I have a question here. I finally visited the sourceforge website and was struck with the impression that SME has kind of splintered. What I mean, and I don't mean to bring up a whole huge issue with it but rather to get clarification, is that it seem that SME is being developed by the sourceforge folks. After being developed, it appears that other folks are distributing it as they see fit. Does this make sense?

I thought that contribs was the sole distributor of the product? I also thought that after the final release of SME 7 came out that it would have the contribs logos on the server manager panels and the likes.

Am I missing the boat somewhere here?
