OK, now that I too am at work I can give you that exact setup that allows you to check from the WAN side.
In your client, you need Athuentication enabled for SMTP, SMTP port 465 and it requires SSL (sorry about that earlier!). For IMAP, port 993 and SSL. This config works on my setup.
As for port 465 on the server. It will be opened/listening on when you enable SSMTP (Secure SMTP). If you don't enable that, this whole exercise is a waste of time. For IMAP, make sure you have Allow private and public (secure IMAPS). You can only use Secure IMAP when working from the WAN side, connections on port 143 will be blocked.
Since there was the whole conversation about DNS earlier, we still don't know if it is correct. Use your PUBLIC Ip instead for now when setting up the client. That way you don't have to worry about MX, CNAME and A records.
Is it possible your company is blocking access out on ports 993 and 465, just for this reason? Post your domain name/IP so we can test the WAN side.
Ok from the LAN this is where I'm at:
I've setup the client using the IP address since I have had no luck with the client at all from the LAN and still do not know if my work client WAN is blocking ports etc. I'll work on that later, one thing at a time.
For now from LAN here is what I get with all the different setting on the client for incoming and outgoing mail.
http://www.foolishlys.com/iclbiz/6.jpgHere are my setting for reference:

Basically I've tried other ports and different smtp.?? settings and different TLS selections and no TLS and all combonations of the various selections available etc. and now the IP address from the LAN I don't get it.
all other clients for other global mail work fine
And note that when I set the mail client outgoing server from the LAN to .foolishlys.com or .iclbiz.com it works fine, no problems there, and no authentication or TLS or SSl etc.All of those settings will send and receive mail, However when setting up authentication when I start the email client I always get the message directing me that the server does not support this and to try turning off secure authentications.
I've tried all variations of the other secured selectsion TLS SSL no TLS and never etc. but all the same effect unless I de-select authentication altogether then I can send and recieve mail and then the client is started I do not get that message again.
?I really don't know what my benifits are for using smtp.and authentication but I only know that the smtp.??? seems to be the typical client setup for users that are accustom to that method.
Thanks
