If you can use wildcards in a CNAME record then you don't need the others.

For CNAME Record    *.foolishlys.com      foolishlys.com

I get this when filling in the fields ?

Sorry, we cannot create that CNAME record. The source *.foolishlys.com cannot point to a subdomain of the same domain. Please choose a unique source or change the destination and try again.

The CNAME settings that you posted won't work. It shows *.foolishlys.com points to a yahoo hostname. Anything other than foolishlys.com or www.foolishlys.com will be directed to a yahoo server. The way you have it setup will never work.

But I am unable to change the source fields so when I put the destinations fields as either foolishlys.com or www.foolishlys.com I get that error message

Your screenshot showed that one already created.

Ensure you only have one A record.

Thats because the screen shot is wrong, you will notice that i'ts misspelled as foolishly.com instead of foolishlys.com (plural) and so in attempting to correct this I get that message, first I tried to delete the current setting, since it would not allow me to add the correct one you suggested

And the A records are those 2 by default and if I delete one then it defaults to Yahoo server, for the destination fields

I'm not sure what to do now

Here is my setup now
http://www.foolishlys.com/iclbiz/4.jpg

I'll try to fool with the client setting to see how these setting are working,?

You need to get your DNS settings right before setting you clients.

Give me your login to yahoo and I will fix it for you.

Put the second A record back.

www.foolishlys.com > 70.91.72.77

mail and stmp appear to now be going to 70.91.72.77 which is good.

Your website appears parked that is why I say put the second A record back.

So I've got this now:
http://www.foolishlys.com/iclbiz/5.jpg

And not sure what to do with *.foolishlys.com setting destination now for CNAME I'm guessing leave it alone ?

I assume since I have the mail.foolishlys.com and the smtp.foolishlys.com that I won't have to have *.foolishlys.com but I really don't understand why they would make me do that, or why it would list *.foolishlys by default then not allow me to add the proper destination as foolishlys.com ?

Thanks for all the help

From the LAN

OK, now that I too am at work I can give you that exact setup that allows you to check from the WAN side.

In your client, you need Athuentication enabled for SMTP, SMTP port 465 and it requires SSL (sorry about that earlier!).  For IMAP, port 993 and SSL.  This config works on my setup.

As for port 465 on the server.  It will be opened/listening on when you enable SSMTP (Secure SMTP).  If you don't enable that, this whole exercise is a waste of time.  For IMAP, make sure you have Allow private and public (secure IMAPS).  You can only use Secure IMAP when working from the WAN side, connections on port 143 will be blocked.

Since there was the whole conversation about DNS earlier, we still don't know if it is correct.  Use your PUBLIC Ip instead for now when setting up the client.  That way you don't have to worry about MX, CNAME and A records.
Is it possible your company is blocking access out on ports 993 and 465, just for this reason?  Post your domain name/IP so we can test the WAN side.

Ok from the LAN this is where I'm at:
I've setup the client using the IP address since I have had no luck with the client at all from the LAN and still do not know if my work client WAN is blocking ports etc. I'll work on that later, one thing at a time.

For now from LAN here is what I get with all the different setting on the client for incoming and outgoing mail.
http://www.foolishlys.com/iclbiz/6.jpg

Here are my setting for reference:
http://www.foolishlys.com/iclbiz/7.jpg
http://www.foolishlys.com/iclbiz/8.jpg
http://www.foolishlys.com/iclbiz/9.jpg
http://www.foolishlys.com/iclbiz/10.jpg

And this one account is setup for IMAP not POP3 just fyi

Basically I've tried other ports and different smtp.?? settings and different TLS selections and no TLS and all combonations of the various selections available etc. and now the IP address from the LAN I don't get it.

all other clients for other global mail work fine

And note that when I set the mail client outgoing server from the LAN to .foolishlys.com or .iclbiz.com it works fine, no problems there, and no authentication or TLS or SSl etc.All of those settings will send and receive mail, However when setting up authentication when I start the email client I always get the message directing me that the server does not support this and to try turning off secure authentications.
I've tried all variations of the other secured selectsion TLS SSL no TLS and never etc. but all the same effect unless I de-select authentication altogether then I can send and recieve mail and then the client is started I do not get that message again.
?I really don't know what my benifits are for using smtp.and authentication but I only know that the smtp.??? seems to be the typical client setup for users that are accustom to that method.

Thanks

As in picture 8, just deselect Use secure authentication.

but smtp never does work from the LAN but when setting outgoing to simply foolishys.com it is working.
I'm not getting my client at work to work properly perhaps it's as was suggested earlier that the those ports are being blocked

I cannot send or recieve mail via IMAP and assume the same for POP3 but I'll try some more and ask the admin at work if the ports are blocked

Then I'll post back, also I'll try another computer from another location directly connected to the internet, and try some more and post my findings

I'm still curious why I cannot set smtp.foolishlys.com or what the actual difference really is ? for outgoing mail client.

I sincerely appreciate all the help.

Server-manager, Configuration, Hostnames and addresses.

Do you have stmp.foolishlys.com set as self ?

No I don't
Crap LOL, I thought that it was in there by default I never even thought of checking in there

I'll add a new host for that now ?

I'm guessing this means I should add host for smtp.foolishlys

I'll post my results

Thanks

And does this require a reconfig restart when adding new hosts ?

If, after doing something in server-manager, you DO NOT get any red text then no further action is required.
